My Story

I am the author of Drive the Narrow Road, an upcoming book shaped by my spiritual awakening that calls self-proclaimed Christians to examine their faith and remain on the narrow road in obedience to God’s will.

I grew up in church and was baptized at eight years old. The pastor told me I was saved because I proclaimed belief in Jesus, and I gladly accepted that. But there was a serious problem: I never opened a Bible. Therefore, I lived in ignorance, with no understanding of God’s will or what a real, transformative relationship with Christ looked like.

Over the next twenty years, I grew into a broken, worldly sinner who suffered the consequences of doing things my own way instead of fully submitting to God’s ways. I finally woke up when I was humbled enough to begin reading God’s Word for myself instead of just going to church.

After twenty years of proclaiming Christianity and assuming I was saved, the words of Jesus in Scripture confronted me with the truth: I was a lost, worldly fool who was not on the narrow road.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." (Matthew 7:13-15)

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)

Jesus clearly said that only those who do the will of the Father will enter the kingdom of heaven. When I finally opened my Bible, I learned that there is no way to do the will of God without knowing the Word of God. For all those years, I was like a child tossed around by the waves of the world, with no understanding of how I was called to live as a professed Christian (Ephesians 4:14).

The truth was that I had not been born again of the Spirit, as Jesus said is required to enter the kingdom of God.

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)

As soon as I began reading and submitting my life to the teachings of God’s Word, everything changed. The Bible has completely transformed my life. Through a surrendered, all-in, repentant faith in Christ, I have been born again of the Spirit and am being shaped into a man of God who desires to walk in obedience and truth. I am a new creation.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.  (2 Corinthians 5:17)

I urge you to examine your life like I did. Are you on the narrow road or the wide path? Have you been born again? Are you a new creation? If you are unsure, open the Bible for yourself and seek the truth while there is still time.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in the Dallas area and went to Baylor University.  I have been married for 17 years and am the grateful father of three awesome kids. We currently reside in the piney woods of East Texas with our two dogs and four cats (that's too many).

My wife and I have served and led in marriage ministry for the past 13 years.  I also serve in men's ministry with a focus on discipleship.

If you have ever known me, then you understand how surreal it is that I was asked to preach a sermon at my church. God is doing something unexpected in my life, and I have come a long way, to say the least.

Check out my first-ever church sermon below.
